The Joy of Joomla!

I’m also a fan of the Joomla! content management system.  In fact, it’s the CMS I used to develop the SIAA website.  One of the things that attracted me to it was the large number of extensions available.  As with WordPress, there’s a huge community of people pitching in to make this CMS the best that it can be.  And this means that there are many varied uses for Joomla! sites (although the exclamation mark is starting to get on my nerves).

When working with the SIAA staff on their requirements for their site, they highlighted that they wanted visitors to the site to be able to ‘Find an Advocate’, using an online directory.  Their vision of a clickable map with catagory filters, leading users to appropriate advocacy groups in their area was clear.  I hit upon the SOBI2 directory component, produced by Sigsiu.NET.  With a bit of hacking around with the PHP and the HTML, I was able to adapt that component to produce a solution that hit the spot.
